Triathlete Taylor Spivey On Her Olympic Dreams

In this installation of Women Who Inspire Us, we caught up with professional triathlete, Olympic hopeful and JoPro, Taylor Spivey. We spoke with her about goal setting, finding the sport that you’re meant for, and what it would mean to make the USA Olympic team.

HOW SHE STARTED

Although Taylor is one of the top female triathletes in the country, she’s only been competing in the sport for a short period of time.  As a member of her college swim team, she tried triathlon to “stay in shape” while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. She never imagined it would take her on a surprising journey to a possible Olympic berth.

Over the past several years, she has been competing all over the world, including on both the ITU and Super League circuits, slowly working her way up in the national and international rankings. Now, only seven months out from the 2020 Summer Olympic games, the reality of representing the USA on the world’s largest sports stage is setting in.

“I never thought I was good enough in swimming to get to the Olympic level,” said Spivey. “I don’t think it was until this last year that I thought I had a chance at the US Olympic team. To make the US Olympic team would be a dream come true.”
